MOTORCYCLE RIDERS CALL TO ACTION
Michigan Legislature Passes Bill to Repeal Helmet Law
On Thursday October 11, HB-4749 to modify Michigan’s helmet law for adult choice passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 69 to 39. One week later, under a seldom-used Senate rule, the Michigan Senate passed the same bill 23 to 15.
So in about one week, the Michigan Legislature overwhelmingly passed legislation what normally has taken us years of negotiation.
This Bill will let adult riders who are over 21, have at least $20,000 in P.I.P. coverage (generally ALREADY covered by your company or business medical insurance), have at least (2) years of a cycle endorsement or who have taken a motorcycle safety class, and who pay $100 ($200 for 3 years) to purchase a plate tag to show that you qualify (if you have more than one motorcycle, there is no additional cost).
As you may or may not know, the Governor is the only hold up in our efforts. You will make the difference if you call her offices at the numbers listed below to urge her to sign HB-4749.
Please make the calls at least once a week until the Governor heeds our message. Copy and pass these numbers out to all your friends and family. For more information visit ABATE at abateofmichigan.org.
